Pfieffer admits that when she first met the couple who introduced her to the cult she thought they were merely personal trainers but that impression quickly soured.
“They were very controlling,” Pfieffer admits.
“I wasn’t living with them but I was there a lot and they were always telling me I needed to come more. I had to pay for all the time I was there, so it was very financially very draining.”
Their ‘philosophy’, continued Pfieffer, dictated that food was unnecessary and that humans should rely solely on air and sunlight to get their nutrients.
“They believed that people in their highest state were breatharians,” Pfieffer explained.
The actress was finally able to break free from the cult when she began dating fellow actor Peter Horton, who at that stage was about to begin filming a movie about cults.
After helping him with his research, Pfieffer says “it just clicked,” and she realised that she was in a cult and immediately began to work her way out.
