Jenny Holzer. Projections

Picture an educated but troubled teenager in a dark room scribbling brooding and sweeping thoughts, a sorrowful and scorned anti-social soul with a lot to say and no medium to project their message.

Nup.

This is Jenny Holzer, a celebrated New York’ian artist who has been projecting her astringent ideas, arguments, and sorrows’ for roughly 30 years. She’s been featured in galleries – 7 World Trade Center, the Reichstag, the Venice Biennale, the Guggenheim Museums in New York and Bilbao, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Armed with a book full of thoughts, the midnight light her canvas, she travels the world bombing cityscapes with her paintbrushes – An LED projection lamp and Futura Condensed ExtraBold. She certainly gets around.

“Starting in the 1970s with the New York City posters, and up to her recent light projections on landscape and architecture, her practice has rivalled ignorance and violence with humour, kindness, and moral courage.”

Hmmmm… Interesting.
